Top talent is in high demand around the globe. And we’re no strangers to mobilising candidates from one side of the globe to another, taking care of each step of the process.
We’re shining a light on a decommissioning project in Spain, demonstrating the vital role WRS is playing in enabling the successful execution of global energy projects.
Background
WRS has worked extensively in North Sea operations with clients such as Total, Repsol, TAQA, and Spirit Energy, and on the EPC side with clients including TechnipFMC, Worley, Saipem, and McDermott. We’ve sourced both permanent and contract workers worldwide, and we’re building a strong focus on P&A and decommissioning wells personnel.
For the decommissioning project, WRS had previously tendered bids for contracts in Norway, Mexico and Algeria and, therefore, already possessed a strong working relationship with this major client.
What does a decommissioning project involve? Fundamentally, any decommissioning project is the safe and systematic shutdown and dismantling of a facility or infrastructure. The aim is to mitigate risk and dispose of waste responsibly while restoring a site to its original environmental state as much as possible.
The project was in Spain, but as there were a few British contractors involved, WRS was able to assist.
The state of play
To put it simply, our client didn’t have the manpower to carry out the decommissioning project while keeping it working in some capacity – which is where we came in.
With the asset being older, ensuring everything was safe and environmentally sound was crucial – but they wanted to somewhat ‘keep it alive’ during this process for at least another three or four years. As a result, they required a major recruitment drive to get contractors on board for the project.
How WRS helped
Our team took care of the whole recruitment process – from identifying top talent and onboarding to ensuring compliance with all necessary regulations. We also secured work permits, managed payroll, arranged travel, and provided comprehensive contractor care services.
We ensured the workers we hired were highly skilled and competent to make sure the project ran smoothly and save the client money. This involved supplying full teams of P&A engineering and execution contractors – from the initial engineering design phases to the offshore supervision and management of wells operations.
