Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Dulles, VA

POSITION SUMMARY
 
Manages all aspects of a project’s design with project management, architects, and other trades through the completion phase of a large project or multiple small projects.
 
 
What you’ll do:
 
 Provides leadership and management to a group of design engineers in performing HVAC system design and document production of small and large projects.
  • Manage preconstruction activities including the design process of design-build and design-assist projects. 
  • Prepares preliminary (redline) design layouts for estimating.
  • Provide technical guidance to Engineering Team in the development of standards, projects, and people.
  • Responsible for the quality of work produced by assigned design engineering group.
  • Participates in conceptual design for specific projects.
  • Represents the company as a design professional at project team design meetings.
  • Initiate and maintain liaison with client personnel and coordinate with other disciplines contractors, architects, and other project team members to ensure the delivery of high-quality projects to facilitate successful construction activities within the prescribed time frames.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external project teams during preconstruction phase of projects (engineer of record, A/E, GC, Owner, other disciplines).
  • Performs deliverables and products such as calculations, drawings, and specifications related to heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning systems.
  • Performs calculations for a project, such as heating/cooling loads, equipment selection, and sizing, pipe and duct sizing, friction loss calculations, etc.
  • Performs site inspections to determine compliance with construction documents and resolves design issues during the construction phase.
  • Responsible for Code Compliance.
  • Communicate and manage project goals and requirements with business development, engineering, estimating, and construction project management.
 
What you’ll need to be successful:
 
  • Excellent working knowledge of HVAC design to include types of equipment utilized in the industry as well as general understanding of system operations (i.e. variable air, constant volume, refrigeration cycle.)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management, including project management and field trades.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with general contractors/clients while exhibiting company core values.
  • Ability to read mechanical and plumbing drawings well.
  • Competent with general business writing and public speaking.
  • Competent in basic computer skills to include CADD, Trane Software and Microsoft Office products (specifically Excel.)
  • Strong knowledge of engineering industry.
 
 What you bring to the table:
 
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. P.E. license preferred; 8+ years experience in related field.
